A Brewery Visit to Central 28 Beer Company in DeBarry Florida

Bryan and I ventured up to DeBary to check out one of Central Florida's newest brewery, Central 28 Beer Co.

I was surprised at how fast it took us to get to the brewery from Central Orlando. Once you exit I-4 and make your way to DeBary you will find signs to help guide you to the brewery. The brewery is located in a warehouse area. There wasn't much action in the area when we were driving and I kept thinking am I going to start hearing the banjos playing? Once we got there I was a bit surprised at how nice it was.

There are six or so tables, a couple of couches and a bar to sit at and enjoy your beer. We opted for a table looking out into the brewery. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and saw a steady flow of people coming in to enjoy beer and get growlers filled.

Where it All Happens

I always try and get a flight of beers on my first visit to a brewery. I like to get a feel for their style. I started off the flight left to right with a farmhouse ale. Trekker Bier comes in at 4.5 %ABV. This was one of my favorite beers out of the flight. Dancing Pierre is a Belgian Pale Ale (5.9% ABV). A solid beer. I had enjoyed this elsewhere, so it was nice to try it at the brewery. Up River is a Pale Ale (6% ABV) that I also enjoyed. I'm usually not a fan of pale ales, but I thought it had good bones. Browns are among my least favorite, so I wasn't surprised that Ms. Mary Brown (6% ABV) was my least favorite in the flight. My favorite out of the flight was Little Wheel IPA (7.2% ABV). I love my IPA's and this didn't disappoint.

As you can see the beers were quite the visual delight. They are all solid flavorful beers. Nothing watered down here.

While I do flights, Bryan always goes for the heavy hitters. He ordered a glass of El Bulli Imperial Milk Stout (9.7 ABV). I had some sips and thought is was wonderful. We grabbed a bottle to go so we could enjoy this chocolatey, smooth and creamy delicious beer at home. What's cool about the El Bulli bottles is they tell you what number your bottle is out of 600. We got lucky number 338.

Yummy!

When we were cashing out we asked about the brewery and the brewer. We found out mom (sweet as can be) was our server and her son in law is the brewer who is married to her daughter. I hope I got that right, either way, it's all about family here and that's pretty cool. Geoff has been brewing around the United States for a while and decided it was time to open his own brewery here in Florida.

The next day I got to meet Kathy & Geoff at the East End Market where Central 28 was having a tap takeover. It was nice to chat with them and tell them how much I enjoyed our beers and visit their brewery.

The brewery isn't that far from Sanford, so make it a craft beer day. There are a number of great craft beer bars worth checking out in Sanford.

Central 28 is a nice addition to the craft beer scene here in Central Florida.  They can a few of their beers. Look out for their beers on tap in the area as well.
